Some of you may remember me from years past, during which I traveled and taught ethnic needlework under the business name "Ethnic Fiber Art".
In the interim, someone else has taken that website name, so I had to come back under a closely related name.
I still enjoy ethnic needlework, but at this point in time, I am creating new projects mostly for my own pleasure. When I seem to be stuck on my work, I will stitch some project offered by other designers.
In our local paper, I was shown with a Hardanger doll dress that I finally finished (picture above.) The article traced the history of the doll created in honor of my Grandmother by my aunt. The doll and dress now are at home with my cousin.
There are many ethnic techniques I still have to research and master for myself. I may (or may not) decide to work on more instructions in the future, so feel free to contact me.
One of the joys of retirement is being able to do WHAT you want, WHEN you want to. Both Les and I enjoy being involved in the affairs of our community.
The picture above was taken at the Thanksgiving dinner we helped serve at our church. Les and I also volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and at our local soup kitchen.
In addition, I do charity knitting and sewing for the mission projects at our church. My most recent efforts have been aimed at providing wheel chair bags for some folks at our church, and doll clothes for foster children.
My volunteer work with the ethnic textile collection at UNL has been a great joy for me. The textiles I am honored to work with there are awe-inspiring, as well as a continual source of discovery about other times and places.
For those of you interested in my personal backgorund, here it is: My name is Phyllis Maurer. I have lived in Lincoln, Nebraska since 1975, after growing up on a farm in rural Nebraska. My husband, Les Williams is the rock I have depended on throughout our 40 plus year marriage.
I retired from a full-time job with the local telephone company in March 2004. Les retired from his position with the USDA Soil Conservation Service in 2006. We look forward to traveling and volunteering during our retirement years.
Recently, I have put on my "editor" hat to work with Les on polishing the short stories he has been writing since his retirement . Please check out the crime and western stories available through his website: WWW.LesWilliamsAuthor.
